In our current 2023 era, the popular buzzword ‘YOLO’ has become a term used to acknowledge free-spirited decision making, or used to excuse possibly questionable actions. YOLO, being an acronym for ‘You Only Live Once’, is indeed cute and fun to say in some circumstances, but the reality is that you do not ‘only live once’, you actually only die once, while you indeed get to Live everyday. I know ‘You only Die Once’ sounds morbid and not as cheeky for fun to say, but it’s more true than the saying ‘you only live once’.
I didn’t create this way of thinking, but I indeed agree with it. Taking actions and making decision in life should not be labeled as ‘…well hey, you only live once so mighty as well…’, rather should be acknowledged and recognized that we get to live every day we are alive. While all humans indeed only have one life, we don’t just live once. We get to live as much as we choose. No matter the actions we take or the decision we make, living and experiencing life can be wonderful if you allow it to be. Taking chances, navigating risks, allowing yourself to enjoy things that interest you, and more are ways to live everyday.
Considering all human style living is complete when our bodies expire, I only imagine that living life to the fullest everyday, and making the best of each moment allows us to pass with less pain, worry or regret. Speculative I know, but I say better safe than sorry. So I encourage you, the next time you feel like spouting ‘YOLO’, consider not. Keep quiet instead, and bask in the moment you’re living in at that time big or small. Look around and absorb the scene and vibe be it exciting or chill. Become one with the place and environment you’re in, embrace the now while planning for more goodness, and begin to live every day.
